I found the puppies disappointing but the top awards were closely contested. My co-judge and I were in agreement with all our joint decisions and pleased with our ultimate line up.
Veteran Dog (5, 2 abs)
1st - McLeod's Aus Ch/Ch Peperone Solid Gold. Ten year old fawn, so pleased to see him again having judged him in Australia, soundly constructed and well balanced, still producing good movement and displaying his many virtues.
2nd - Russell's Ch Juneric Midnight Mischief, similar fawn, in lovely condition, at seven years old could have held his own in Open
3rd - Third's Bruntsfield Skyliner
Minor Puppy Dog (9, 0 abs)
1st - Seers' Espinore Eagle Rock, attractive fawn, easily the best put together in the class, outgoing happy temperament, gave his handler quite hard work but nonetheless showed me enough to win the class, when more settled could do very well.
2nd - O'Brian's Sheol Rock A Billy, quality gold fawn, quite a lot to like but needs to strengthen behind
3rd - Morris' Gilnockie Devine at Crosscop
Puppy Dog (2, 2 abs)
1st - Short's Wheelspin Lively Band, fawn of nice type and quality, put in a polished performance which won him BPD but could not match his sister's better confirmation when it came to BPIS.
2nd - Mycroft's Supeta's Breaking Dawn over Selinko, white trimmed fawn, lots of quality, lovely coat and skin, good for outline, would prefer more bone to the ground
3rd - Wilson and Ballantyne's Lightening McQueen at Speymalt
Junior Dog (10, 3 abs)
1st - Corsar's Piersland I Got Rhythm at Chamhembe, close decision between two similar and very nice fawn dogs here. Both had type, quality and sound movement, the winner held his top line a litter better on the move, on another day they could easily change places, both are promising
2nd - Russell's Glantam Shooting Star
3rd - Third's Bruntsfield Rock Pipit
Yearling Dog (8, 3 abs)
1st - Lempereur's Blue Spring's Geoffrey, pale fawn, nice size, balanced construction, nice curvy lines over the loin and tuck up, good bone to the ground, strong exaggerated quarters, moved freely and soundly, typical of this prefix
2nd - Beckett-Bradshaw's Collooney Horn Knee Harry at Hutaka, attractive light brindle, beautiful head and expression, quality coat and skin, at the moment length of loin and angulation make him appear rather flat and unbalanced, needs more time to drop and come together, good length of stride
3rd - Wilson and Ballantyne's Lightening McQueen at Speymalt
Novice Dog (10, 2 abs)
1st - Third's Bruntsfield Ronan, classic fawn of standard size, nicely put together all through, moved steadily
2nd - Ireland's Kendici Tailwind at Jakile, pale fawn/white, elegant dog built on racy lines, sound moving, needs more fill of forechest
3rd - Mossbawnhill Got Attitude
Graduate Dog (4, 1 abs)
1st - Smith's Ragstar Winter Wonder, masked fawn with white trim, solid well made dog, standing four square on good legs and feet, perhaps up to size but balanced and purposeful.
2nd - Third's Bruntsfield Rock Pipit, fawn and white, scopey youngster, has type and quality, still very immature, the slow kind that are worth waiting for, moved soundly
3rd - Brindley's Gil Riabhach at Cloudy Lane
Post Graduate Dog (8, 0 abs)
1st - Ireland's Mikadene Night Runner at Jakile, fawn/white, quality dog of correct size, attractive head, smooth outline, moved freely
2nd - Middlemiss' Normainia Border Reiver, another quality fawn/white, would have looked better with less weight
3rd - Forsyth and Furniss' Whichyty Mon Beau Fils
Mid Limit Dog (6, 1 abs)
1st - Dillon's Collooney Billy The Whizz, fawn/white trim, really nice, balanced, correct sized dog, pleasing to handle because here the angles were correct, the shoulder laid back, the quarters well let down without exaggeration, consequently the topline flowed over the shoulder, loin and down to the hock. With this construction he moved as you would expect, with extension in front and soundly fore and aft. He was perhaps unlucky that my next two classes were so strong.
2nd - Armstrong and McFarlane's Cornstalk Miles To Go, another ideal sized well made dog of quality, most of the above applies, I would just like a little more spring of pastern.
3rd - Wilkinson's Fletchgate Star Walker
Limit Dog (11, 1 abs)
Strong class with a good line up
1st - Stock and Gilmour's Courthill Catcher In The Rye, a fawn/white, young dog just coming to his peak, ideal combination of substance and quality, beautifully put together, held his topline standing and moving, I loved his head, expression and outlook, presented hard and shining to take the CC and RBIS
2nd - Morris and Waddell's Collooney Look No Further Than Crosscop, impressive red fawn, slighter longer-cast than the winner, many of the same virtues, may need a little more time
3rd - Marston-Pollock and Coulter's Collooney Rock My World
Open Dog (18, 5 abs)
1st - Russell's Willingwisp Star Trooper, fawn/white trim, well known champion whom I have long admired for his abundance of breed qualities, he has been a great ambassador for the breed, always beautifully shown in immaculate condition, a very close decision, RCC
2nd - Wilton-Clarke's Ch Shalfleet Simply A Lord, ran the winner close, brindle and white, beautifully presented, nicely balanced and sound moving
3rd - Short's Ch Collooney Going Dutch, this was a very competitive class which was a pleasure to judge.
