My thanks to the Officers and Committee of NEWS for the invitation to judge and to the exhibitors for their entries.
I found the classes very mixed for type so I was pleased to have a similar line up at the end.
I was hoping to find dogs of great type, balanced all through with smooth and sleek lines of a running hound, with the correct amount of angulation, balanced front and rear with correct length and return of upper arm, rise over the loin with nice underline. I like to see flat muscle over the shoulders without the bone being too bulky. In movement I wanted the legs to be turning neither in nor out on the up and down and balanced driving movement in profile - with upper arm and shoulder moving in the correct manner to produce this.
I have aways thought the key to the standard is no exaggerations and I felt all my winners represented this.
I haven't repeated all these points for the individual critiques; just said what impressed me the most and why I placed one over the other.
At least three quarters of the entry were in good condition, which is extremely important to me and some dogs I didn't place because they weren't my type but I would have liked to have commended on their condition.
However, some were far too soft in muscle and therefore had to move down the placings.
I was happy to agree to the award Collooney Whoopee Do Dora JW, BIS, winning her important 3rd CC on the day.

1st Russell's Ch Willingwisp Star Trooper
A pleasure to go over this dog again, he is in excellent condition and looking every inch a Champion still at 9yrs old. He moves so soundly up and down which won him a nice class of veterans, I was pleased to see him go BVIS in agreement with my co judge.
2nd Johnston's Ch Collooney Tricky Dicky JW SHCM
Another dog I have often admired, looking at his best, really lovely and curvy unexaggerated shape, moving freely in profile, just preferred the winner coming towards me today.

1st Dillon's Kierpark Smooth Criminal
Was really taken with this young dog, lovely for size, curves in all the right places but with the scope to grow in to. A melting expression, correct for return of upper arm. Moving really soundly and reaching and driving in profile, holding outline well. Thoroughly deserved the RCC in this nice line up and I was delighted to award him BPIS in agreement with my co judge.
2nd Allsopp's Supeta's So Suave
A boy of nice size and type, moving soundly up and down, preferred the angulation and scope of my winner.

2nd Ellis' Railfield Rainknight
A lovely boy who pushed hard in this class, very smooth to go over and great condition.
Showed a nice shape as he relaxed more, moved well at the rear and in profile, not quite settled in front.
3rd Coulter & Fletcher's Collooney Prawn Star

1st Glasspool & Manner's Moonlake Miles to Go to Mannerpool
A very honest dog, full of breed type and quality, smooth to go over and very sound, moved freely in profile holding his outline, true coming and going.
2nd Winkley-Balmer's Crosscop Hello Again
Really liked the shape and angulation on this dog, of ideal size and type. Sound up and down, holds his outline just needs to steady in front movement in profile.

1st Reece & Tonkin's Danluke Disco Dancer at Gabledene
Liked everything about this dog when stacked, masculine yet elegant in shape, correct amount of angulation and balanced all through. Lovely head and expression. He was pulling to one side on the move which was corrected when I asked his handler to switch hands one the up and down, he showed perfectly sound movement, enough to win in his classes. In profile the pulling stopped him showing his movement off, otherwise I would have strongly considered him for top honours.
2nd Howgate & Hull's Palmik Strike It Right JW
A very impressive and striking dog, similar in shape to my winner. Moved soundly away and with drive in profile, just preferred my winner coming towards me.

1st Andrew's Railfield Rainkey for Sharmus
A quality and unexaggerated puppy who moved soundly, just needs to drop in to his frame.
2nd Blank's Azarin Dundun with Westmount
Similar to the winner, holding back a little in front movement so not quite as balanced on the move.

1st Green & Place's Brochinbelle Star Light
Correct sized and unexaggerated dog, nice angulation and good shape with correct rise over the loin. Moved soundly up and down with reach and drive in profile, won this class with ease. Just lacked the elegance I was looking for to compete in the challenge.
2nd Taylor's Something A Little Special
Again nice for size and type, moved soundly and free in profile, preferred the angulation of my winner.

1st Johnston's Danluke Lord of the Dance
Couldn't get passed this beautiful brindle dog, gorgeous head and expression, long and strong neck which flowed well in to nicely angulated shoulders, smooth and sleek to go over with correct rise over the loin, enough depth and spring of rib, well angulated quarters that balanced with his front. In excellent condition with lovely coat. On the move he is completely sound up and down and flows in profile, still has a little maturing to do to hold that outline on the move, had to give way on this point to the more mature bitch for BIS. I couldn't stop looking at him and liked him the more I looked. I had no hesitation awarding him the DCC.
2nd Morris, Waddell & Service's Khabaraytime Hello at Crosscop
A lovely curvy dog of correct size and type, moved very soundly up and down, just not putting his all in profile today.

The first three where all of similar type and I was splitting hairs between them.
1st Martin's Piersland Iron Man at Lorabar
A very honest dog, excellent for type and smooth to go over, nice outline with correct rise over the loin and no exaggerations. Moved well going away, went better when asked to move at a slightly faster pace coming towards me and in profile. I think he had, had enough by the challenge!
2nd Cutter and Lubin's Wayhead Cellini for Chosovi JW
Nice for size and in excellent condition, showing off lovely head and expression with nice neck in to shoulder. Moved very soundly and free in profile, just tends to drop off too much in topline at times.

Litter brother to my LD winner and very similar. He was handled to get the best out of him. Very smooth neck and shoulders, flowing shape and not exaggerated in any way.
Moved out well when concentrating to win this strong class. In the challenge he was pulling to go out the ring which threw his movement off.
2nd Whitehead, Smith & Mixides' Ch Citycroft Star Gazing over Yialousa JW
Correct sized dog of excellent quality, no exaggerations, pushed the winner hard and again handled to get the best out of him. In lovely condition. Just slightly preferred shoulders of the winner.
